Everybody needs a break. Parents need a break from their kids, hubbies need a break from their wives and writers need a break from writing. At least that’s what I thought when life got uber busy two months ago.
Yet what I’ve realized is that even a break needs a break sometimes.
THINGS I’VE LEARNED ON BLOG-CATION
- I function much better as a writer when I write. Seriously, blogging opens the door to my creativity. Without my daily posting, I’ve been more inclined to sit on my butt and let time go by while I ponder the written word. When I try to write, it takes way longer to get in the groove than it did when I was blogging daily.
- I miss my blogging friends who have most likely moved on to other blogging friends, maybe even gotten married and had cyber babies in my absence.
- Blogging lets me be me. I have so many other hats to wear in a day that I have lost track of who I am and where I want to go in life. Blogging kept me focused on my writing and helped me balance my time. Or at least I felt more balanced. Being self-centered has taken on a new meaning.
- I’m all shades of lazy when I don’t blog. My mind, that is. My brain feels lethargic and slower than a slush pile on a busy agent’s desk. I’m afraid if I don’t use it, I really will lose it.
- I’ve also realized that once I stepped out of the writer’s closet (blogging every day) it is impossible to go back in and shut the door. I hate how isolated I feel without my connection to other writers in the blogosphere.
So, I guess I’m saying it’s time to come back. I’m taking a break from my break and getting my writing hiney back into the chair and my fingers back to the key board.
Five, four, three, two, one…
It’s go time.
Welcome back! You were still on my e-mail subscription list, so here I am. I’m glad you’ve come out of hiding.
Thank you. I’ve started making my rounds of blogs and should get to everyone’s by the end of the week. Now to figure out when I shall sleep!
Welcome back! I’m sure your friends are still here for you. (I don’t think they’ve moved on, got married, or had cyber babies, either. :D) I know I’ve missed you and your blog and I’m glad you’re back. 🙂
Thanks, TK. Hope all is going well for you and your book. Still looking forward to the next in the series!
It’s good to have you back…I, too, love how blogging keeps me focused on writing. I just finished the NaNoWriMo challenge, which has been good for reestablishing good “writing” habits.
Congrats on the NaNo win and thanks for stopping back in. I’ve missed everyone so much!
Welcome back and thanks for stopping by my blog. I haven’t been very bloggerly lately, but I did get into my writing mode and gear up for NaNoWriMo, which…ta da! I crossed the finish line 48 hours early! It was a blast!
Good for you, Rahma. I hope you love your new rough draft! NaNo is so much fun. Especially when you pull a win with a few hours to spare.
Yay! *throws confetti in the air* And cue the trumpets, lol. I can’t wait to catch up on everything you’ve been doing in hiding, or at least on all the creative posts I’m sure you thought of while away. ;p
LOL. About every day I’d find something interesting and I’d be like, “This would make a great post!” Then I’d remember that I had not time and was on a hiatus. I can’t wait to get back in the routine and dust off the old brain again.
I have missed you….actually just thinking about you when I posted after a long absence. You are right though, writers need to write and though I haven’t been burning up bloggyville I’ve been writing up a storm. Glad you’re back on the front burner Cat!
Thanks, Yvonne. I so enjoyed your post when I read it today. You have such a wonderful way with words that really inspires me.
Welcome back! 🙂
Hugs!
Welcome back! I definitely like being in the writing mode every day too – otherwise, it’s too easy to let it slip by the wayside. Hope you find a schedule that works for you 🙂
I’ll certainly try. I didn’t realize how much of an impact being idle on the blogging front would make in my creative life as a whole. Pretty amazing when I think about it. Can’t wait to give it the old college try again.
Welcome back, Cat!!! I hope you enjoyed your blogcation, but I’m glad to see new posts! I don’t blog every day, but I must write something every day or else it’s too easy to get in the habit of thinking about writing more than actually writing. Writing every day is important for me!
Laura,
So true. It is easy to get in the habit of thinking about the process. Getting those words down on paper takes a bit more discipline.
I’m happy to be back and so glad to see your smiling face!
I had only just discovered and begun enjoying your blog before you took your hiatus. I’m glad you’ve decided to return.
Thank you for stopping by and for commenting. I’m glad you stuck around for my two month break and hope to see you around.
hugs~
Yay Yay Yay! I so missed you!!!!
I missed everyone too. I hate feeling disconnected! Like a dropped call going through a valley…
